The Ivory Coast Alocasia, scientifically known as Alocasia x amazonica, is an exquisite plant with glossy heart-shaped leaves adorned by delicate silvery veins. This striking beauty stands out as an elegant addition to any collection of beloved tropical houseplants. Notably, it is exceptionally low-maintenance, making it a hassle-free choice for plant enthusiasts.

Best Locations For Growing Ivory Coast Alocasia

Alocasia thrives in environments with a medium level of light and can flourish in various rooms within your home. Its large, lush leaves also act as natural air purifiers, helping filter out airborne chemicals from your surroundings. However, be cautious as the plant's sap can cause skin irritation if it comes into contact with damaged leaves.

  • Care Tips

    Ivory Coast Alocasia Sunlight Requirements

The Ivory Coast Alocasia flourishes in bright indirect or medium light indoors, making it ideal for east- or west-facing windows. In seasons with lower light levels, consider using grow lights to provide the extra illumination it requires. During summer, this Elephant Ear can even be cultivated outdoors. When placed outside, ensure it is positioned in semi-shaded to dappled shade areas to prevent sunscalding of the leaves.

    Ivory Coast Alocasia Care

For optimal growth, maintain indoor temperatures between 60-85 degrees F and keep humidity levels high. Light misting around the plant daily helps achieve the right humidity balance. Use a potting mix tailored for indoor plants, augmenting it with worm castings and fine orchid bark mix to enhance soil fertility and drainage. Repotting annually in late winter, just as new growth emerges, with fresh potting soil in a slightly larger container, ensures robust growth.

    Watering Ivory Coast Alocasia

Prevent the soil around the tuber from drying out completely. It should feel like a thoroughly wrung-out sponge. During spring and summer, watering 2-3 times a week will maintain consistently moist soil. Reduce watering to once a week or less in winter when growth slows. If the plant is under-watered, it will start to droop. If overwatered, the stem will also droop but feel slimy and squishy. Trim damaged leaves, allow the plant to dry thoroughly, and it will rebound with new growth within a week or two.

    Feeding Ivory Coast Alocasia

During active growth in spring and summer, Ivory Coast Alocasia benefits from feeding every 3-4 weeks. Use a water-soluble fertilizer with a balanced N-P-K ratio, ideally 10-10-10, to support its lush foliage and root development. In winter, cease fertilizing unless the leaves lose their vibrancy.
